Registry cleaners are one of the more common PC maintenance software utilities found on PCs these days. Of the current batch, the Uniblue Registry Booster 2010 edition is one of the more widely used products available. In this review, we’ll take a look at what changes were made in the latest version.

Installation

One of the major issues with the Uniblue Registry Booster 2009 version of the large download file size which wasn’t an issue if you had a fast broadband connection could prove to be a real pain on slow Internet connections.

The new version has dramatically reduced the download size as result of a lot of code reworked it was done in order to support Windows 7 in this release.

User interface

Uniblue Registry Booster has always had a very simple user interface in order to make it as easy as possible for novice users and advanced users to be able to run the scan and repair tasks as easily as possible.

The new edition has maintained this deceptively straightforward and simple user interface and allows you to run a scan within a few simple clicks. The scan results display back the severity levels of any issues that are found (using red/amber/green signal) which is a nice touch. It also allows you decide if you want to proceed with the repairs at all, which may not be necessary depending on the severity of the faults found.

Additional features

One very noticeable feature found during this Uniblue Registry Booster review was the registry backup function which is automatically run any time you do repairs. Being able to access backup copies of the registry file is one of the easier ways to actually repair corruption or damage made by viruses to the registry file. The fact that this is automated in the Uniblue Registry Booster product means that you don’t have to worry about manually creating backups.

Another standout feature is the ability to defragment the Windows registry file. Just like disk defragmentation, being able to defragment the registry will improve the file access times for any OS programs and third-party applications when they need to access data. This will prove to be especially useful for older PCs where the registry file is generally quite large due to the volume of application changes and installations that are made over a number of years.

In conclusion

The Uniblue Registry Booster 2010 version is just as easy to use as previous editions. It is perfectly suited to users looking for a no fuss application that it can run as often as they like. It is effective at finding files and repairing them and the automated backup and defragmentation are two of the more thoughtful features seen in any type of registry cleaner.

Competition

  • Registry Easy: Utility tool that cleans, repairs and optimizes the registry file.
  • XP Repair Pro: Registry and system repair and optimization that scans for over 60,000 common computer errors.
