Windows Registry Problem Types

There can be a huge number of reasons for registry problems: virus damage and lost/damaged keys when installing or removing a program are two of the most common.

The important thing about the registry file is that you should avoid editing it manually at all costs as you can never be sure what shared settings you could be affecting.

Start by running an anti-virus scan to resolve the Windows registry problem. Alternatively, removing the suspected faulty applications may also reset damaged key settings.

If this fails then your next option is to resort to (a) registry cleaners or (b) the System Restore tool to fix registry problem.

Automated Repairs/Registry Cleaners

There are plenty of registry repair tools around these days (e.g. Registry Easy or XP Repair Pro) that can find a problem with registry files and attempt the repairs.

One of the newer approaches is to fix registry and program file damage using an online service, such as Reimage, that can scan for thousands of fault types and download the healthy files from their web-based repository. Reimage currently have a free online scan that can provide you with a registry scan report of found issues.

Check out our Reimage review to find out how this tool can speed up and stabilize your PC.
Try out the free Reimage scan to highlight registry, OS and application repairs that your PC requires.

Using Windows Restoration Tools

Ever since XP, Microsoft has been including the System Restore tool with OS releases. It doesn’t so much fix a problem with registry files as overwrite system files with a previous healthy snapshot (undoing the changes to the files).

The restore points (snapshots) are made on a frequent basis, for example when new applications are installed and Windows Update is executed. The snapshot includes the registry file, protected OS programs and some third-party applications and is stored to the hard disk. Snapshots versions are kept by date of creation.

The snapshot does not include any of your personal documents (i.e. My Documents) so these will be unaffected by the restoration process.

However, customizations you have made to applications since the snapshot may be lost or cause some odd application problems (e.g. browsers losing add-on setting changes). As a result, the tool should only really be used in emergency circumstances after scans for viruses, removing faulty programs and other avenues have been attempted.

You can run the program as follows to fix registry problem:

Go to the Start menu, Search box and enter system restore. Older systems can find the tool in the Programs > Accessories > System Tools folder.

Choose the option to ‘Restore my computer to an earlier time’. Click the Next button.

In the calendar, pick a recent day prior to the registry problem occurring. This snapshot of files will be the one restored. Click the Next button.

The computer will restart with the restored system files. With a bit of luck, your Windows registry problem will be fixed.

Registry problems have as many causes as they have solutions. Hopefully, the options above provide a reliable course of action to help resolve your issues.

External hard drive repair has become increasingly important given the volume of critical data we backup and save to these disks. An external hard disk is more likely to experience physical damage due to it being so portable. And software/file system faults can easily occur, just as with internal hard drives. However it should still be possible to recover hard disk data and restore the drive to working order in most cases. Here, we’ll show how to repair external hard drive issues relating to mechanical and software faults.

How To Repair External Hard Drive Mechanical Issues

Start by working out if you have a mechanical / component fault or if there is a software issue.

Hardware damage is often identified by abnormal noises from the hard drive. The sounds of scratching may mean the spindles/heads are seizing up. Likewise, a clicking sound may mean the spindle motors have a problem. A rattling noise could mean a component has come loose.

Investigate as follows:

Do not continue to use/run the external drive (this could cause more damage).

Unplug the device and open up the casing.

Check for loose components to be tightened. Check the platters & arms are not bent. If the drive appears scratched then seek professional help as the read/write heads could be misaligned (and further use or alterations could make this worse).

Close up the casing and retest.

Some additional hardware considerations:

Check the USB cable/USB port is not damaged. Try running the device on a different port/second PC/using a different USB cable.

External Hard Drive Repair Software

The most severe fault you may experience is when the entire disk contents cannot be seen. In this case, use the options in the external hard drive recovery section below. Do not run the Check Disk utility first as this may reorganise data making data recovery less successful.

The more common software faults you may experience are (a) file system faults and (b) bad sectors. These result in partial loss of directories/files. Windows provides its own external hard drive repair software for scanning and repairing these types of faults.

Run an external drive check as follows:

Connect the external hard drive and computer via a USB cable.

Open Windows Explorer. Right-click the external drive and select “Properties”.

In the Properties window, select the Tools tab.

In the Tools tab choose “Check Now” in the error checking section.

Options can vary at this point depending on OS. If available, select “Automatically fix file system errors” and “Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors”. Alternatively, select “Thorough” if present.

Click “Start” to begin the repairs.

External Hard Drive Recovery

If you fear that your data may be lost then data recovery software such as Remo Undelete and Restore My Files Data Recovery can help retrieve lost data.

Install and run a recovery tool.

Select the external hard drive to scan for lost data clusters (including those in bad sectors).

The program returns a list of found files. Copy the files you need to a new directory/location.

Recovery tools only work on mechanically fit drives (e.g. they won’t work if the heads are misaligned). They will have a better chance of finding more files if the disk check utility has not been run (this may jumble up data clusters on disk memory).

Check out our Reimage review to find out how
this application is capable of fixing computers registry, OS and application issues.

It can be aggravating and counter-productive to wait around as a PC boots, processes program commands or accesses websites. This article looks at how to fix slow computer startup and general performance times.

Isolate And Remove Bugs

Viruses, malware, spyware and adware can all slow PC speeds by corrupting registry settings and running as background tasks (e.g. mass emailers).

Update, then run, your anti-virus software. This can fix computer errors caused by viruses to system files as well as stop them running in the background. Run daily if you spend a lot of time online.

Run a spyware check every few weeks.

Activate your anti-virus application’s pop-up blocker. This will stop these nuisances from hogging internet bandwidth.

Cleanse Disk Space And Programs

The more space on the hard disk, the more room for virtual memory (i.e. the paging file) to expand unimpeded. Likewise, streamlining your installed programs reduces the registry size (which in itself can fix slow PC issues) and reduces the chances of shared key issues.

Remove documents you no longer want, or can obtain online. This could included videos, torrents, installations programs, etc.

Remove programs you no longer use or do duplicate functionality of other programs (e.g. database administration, picture editing, old games).

Disable or remove browser add-ons. These cause a lot of slow PC issues when browsing online by constantly downloading information for each page.

Purge your local email. Delete old mails you don’t need. Archive the email if necessary and burn several backup copies to disk if you feel you still may need them.

Run Disk Maintenance

One important thing to know about how to fix a slow computer is to realize the importance of your hard disk/hard drive and the part it plays in computer speeds. Anything you can do to optimize disk access times will fix slow PC performance across the entire system.

Use the Disk Cleanup application (accessories > system tools) to clear out temporary system files, cookies, etc. Run this as often as you wish (if you are on the web a lot then you’ll be surprised by how much files this program can remove daily).

Run a Disk Defragmenter each month. This brings dispersed document fragments on the disk back together so that disk reading heads can rapidly access one sector of data instead of having to look around the disk. This makes for massive savings when you consider the thousands of files and fragments on your computer.

Check your hard disk for errors at least every quarter. This can lead to general degradation of computer speeds and data loss so is well worth doing. Open Windows Explorer, right click a drive, choose properties, tools tab to find the disk check utility.

This article details ways of improving your PC’s performance.
To see further benefits, check out our Reimage review to find out how
this application is capable of fixing computers registry, OS and application issues.

How To Fix Slow Computer Startup Times

You can fix slow PC start times by disabling the applications and services run as Windows boots. If you don’t need the programs then simply remove them. If you wish to hang onto the programs then disable them from initializing at startup via Windows System Configuration tool (Start menu > Run > enter msconfig).

The important thing about knowing how to fix slow computer performance is to realize that this is an ongoing task. You will need to run your maintenance monthly/quarterly to stop your slow PC from dis-improving

The web is awash with offers for free laptop computers these days. Some of these are legitimate student programs but many can be hoaxes and scams. Here, we’ll look at the small print conditions that these programs often have to catch out unsuspecting applicants.

There are many types of free laptop deals so it is only possible to highlight some of the more treacherous conditions you should watch out for.

Free Laptop Computers: A Generic Referee Type Program

The first type offer free laptop computers for applicants who (i) sign up to a sponsored/advertised program and (ii) get a set amount of colleagues (a.k.a. referees) to also sign up to the program.

The first setback with this is that the sponsored offer will cost money to join. The second is that not many of your friends will wish to sign onto the offer. This results in those chain emails being sent out in a vain effort to get the prerequisite amount of people to sign up. If any part of the condition fails then you won’t receive your free laptop computer.

Free Laptop Computer Program Variations: More Advertised Schemes/ More Info

Other schemes make variations on this type of program. Some will not request referees but will insist on you joining a larger number of sponsored schemes before receiving your laptop notebook. Each of these in turn has sign-up charges, early-exit costs and possibly even recurring subscription fees. It may not even be a product/service you are particularly interested in.

Another variation is to request more personal information from you when signing up. This may include financial history, health status, family information and other personal data. The information is then sold on to third-party firms as market research or (more commonly) sales leads.

If this happens, then you can expect your free laptop notebook to be overwhelmed with the volume of spam emails you will start receiving along with an increase in junk mail and sales calls. You should also consider the fact that you sign away your data protection on many of these programs so your details may be proliferated out to hundreds of companies.

Not all schemes for free laptop computers will be identical so you should take this advice to mind and inspect the terms and conditions of each program carefully. Look out for the additional costs and traps that can stop you receiving a free laptop computer.

Check out our Reimage review to find out how this tool can speed up and stabilize your PC.

This article shows how to recover data from crashed hard drive partitions using five different ways. Each approach can be used for trying to recover hard disk data after a system/software related crash. Crashes due to mechanical/component damage limit your options to using data recovery experts to attempt lost file retrieval.

1: Recover lost files using an external case for the hard disk

Recovering data from crashed hard drive partitions can be simply done using a second PC connected to an external case for the internal hard drive. The process goes as follows:

Buy an external case for the internal hard drive. These are cheap enough to buy and convert your internal hard drive into an external drive.

Open up your PC and remove the internal hard disk carefully.

Insert the disk into the external case.

Using a USB cable, connect the case to a second PC.

Copy the disks content over to the second PC.

This works if you have a second PC to borrow/work with. The external drive can be used afterward for data storage.

2: Boot the computer from a CD then clone the files

This method can recover data from crashed hard drive partitions without needing to open up the computer. The idea is to boot the computer using the Linux operating system directly from a CD, rather than boot from the Windows operating system. This way you don’t affect Windows and can browse/copy the disk contents.

Here is how to boot from a Linux CD:

Borrow a second computer and download a Linux Live CD (e.g. Puppy Linux). Burn this to CD.

Restart your faulty computer and enter the BIOS menu (hit F2 as Windows is starting).

Change the boot sequence setting so that ‘boot from CD’ is the first option.

Insert the Linux CD into the disk drive.

Save your BIOS settings/changes and restart the computer.

The computer will boot up a temporary Linux OS from the CD instead of Windows. Once started you can browse the file system and copy the hard drive contents over to CD/DVD/external storage.

3: Use PC repair tools to remedy the fault

Products like Reimage are capable of repairing a crashing hard drive by repairing system files, registry corruption and third-party application damage. This approach attempts to reinstate a healthy working operating system for you by repairing the faults that caused the hard drive crash in the first place.

Check out our Reimage review or why not try running
a Reimage scan to see what registry, OS and application repairs it could fix.

4: Data recovery software

There are plenty of data recover tools available that can recover lost files by attempting to scan a drive’s partitions looking for data clusters to form into user documents. These tools require the drive to be mechanically sound in order to work.

Each tool will have varying degrees of success based on the cause of the crash so it is worth trying the free/trial scans of a few products to see which one returns the most found files.

Recommended tools: Remo Undelete or Restore My Files

5: Data recovery services

Data recovery experts make a living from fixing computers and recovering data from crashed hard drive partitions. This is the costliest of the options here and may be the last resort in some cases.

Recovery services will use a combination of specialized data recovery software (forensic level applications) to scan for and recover lost files. If a hard drive crash is due to water/fire damage or a fault with the spindle/heads/bearings then they have the skills to dismantle the disk and the tools to read disk partitions directly. This can cost hundreds to do so always request an estimate/quote before they begin working on your hard drive.

Understanding how to recover data from crashed hard drive sectors/partitions is a key way to salvage lost data. However, for extra safety you should keep up with your regular data backups as crashes due to mechanical problems may cause most of your data to be lost forever.

Harddisk bad sector repair is one of the easier tasks to complete. However, it won’t always fix PC errors 100% of the time and you may end up losing data on these bad sectors of the disk in some cases. This article look at bad sector repairing options and tools.

Causes Of The Fault

The problem can be due to mechanical or software problems.

Software: Issues relating to disk driver programs or bugs in system files can lead to the problem. Windows own repair tool (see how-to steps below) may be able to fix PC errors like these or will proceed to mark the sectors unusable if the repair is unachievable. An unusable sector is not used for saving any subsequent files and you should still be able to work with the healthy sectors.

Mechanical: Problems with a faulty drive head or other component can lead to bad sectors. In most cases, a harddisk bad sector repair tool will be incapable of fixing these faults. Data recovery software (e.g. Remo Undelete or Restore My Files) may be able to recover lost data on the sectors if they are still at least readable.

Bad Sector Repairing: How-To Steps

Windows own disk checking tool is the ideal tool to begin attempting your repairs. Start by doing a full backup of your data prior to using the tool (just in case the fault spreads to other sectors). Our post on computer backup options details plenty of choices & their benefits, using tools like Final Sync or iDrive/My Live Drive.

Run the repair tool as follows:

Open Windows Explorer and expand the ‘My Computer’ root directory.

Go to the drive causing problems, right-click on it and choose ‘Properties’ from the context menu.

The drive’s properties window will pop up. Select the Tools tab. At the top you will notice an Error Checking Status section; click the ‘Check Now’ button in this section.

Depending on your OS version you will now see different options. Choose a ‘thorough’ scan if available or the option to ‘scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors’. Hit the ‘Start’ button to begin the repairs.

If this succeeds then continue making backup copies of the disks contents to safeguard against further disk faults.

If it fails then you could consider third party tools (see below) which may be able to do more thorough scans & repairs. Alternatively, you may have to accept the sectors are unusable and may try recovery software to retrieve lost data.

Third Party Bad Sector Repair Tool Options

There are surprisingly few disk repair tools available. Perhaps this is due to the fact that each hard drives architecture and design differ making it unviable for one tool to be able to repair a range of products.

Bad sector repair free options: You should check out the hard drive manufacturer’s own website for free diagnostic and repair tools. If anything, they will be most familiar with the disk design and already have such tools in use by their own development teams.

Commercial options: There are relatively few tools on the market. HD Tune Pro has an error scan tab for checking errors. HDDRegenerator has a bad sector repair section and is popular with fans of PC tuning.

You increasingly hear in the news of customer data being found on an employee’s lost laptop, simply because they didn’t bother to password protect folder contents. USB flash security is an even bigger concern for companies as these are even more portable than laptops and prone to being lost or stolen. Here, we’ll look at how software and hardware approaches can be used to safeguard USB files from prying eyes.

USB Flash Memory Security – The Concerns

The big concern with USB memory is that it can store vast amounts of files. There is very little to stop an employee storing customer information, source code, financial details, HR records, business plans, etc. on a disk that can be so easily taken out of the building.

The negative impact to customer loyalty, competitive plans and company reputation can be immense.

USB Flash Disk Security – Using Encryption Software

Software vendors have been quick to produce USB specific software that can be used on existing USB drives to secure information. They work by using an encryption algorithm along with a user password to encrypt the information as it is stored to USB memory.

If someone finds a lost USB drive then they may be able to scan the flash disk memory but the files will be decipherable, so long as a secure password is used.

Suggested Software: BitLocker to Go, True Crypt

Pros

Can incorporate company software to synchronize/backup data to a computer or network.

Can be retro-fitted to existing USB memory, which reduces the cost of implementation.

Cons

Prone to weak password issues (hackers guessing a user’s basic password). This is a danger with any data protection policies, not just USB flash security.

Only as strong as the encryption algorithm being used.

USB Flash Disk Security – Using USB Hardware With Encryption Chips

The used of dedicated encryption chips has long been used to fix computer security loopholes by transparently encrypting all documents as they are stored to disk. The approach has now been applied to USB flash disks with their own dedicated chips used to encrypt files.

The chip can also provides additional protection by being able to overwrite flash memory with random information if the password is incorrectly entered a set amount of times. If the USB drive is lost then a person would need the password to read the USB contents and even a mechanical recovery (directly reading the memory) would not succeed as the information is encrypted in memory.

Pros

Can limit employees to using only these special USB disks

High level of USB flash security/data protection can be enforced even if the user has a weak password.

Cons

Cost of USB drives with encryption chips can be high.

Some reported cases of encryption chip algorithms being hacked.

In Conclusion: Employees should adhere to whatever USB flash security policy there company provides and safeguard their own data where possible. Home users should also look at USB flash memory security, especially for personal information/photos that they store on these drives and incorporate a USB backup approach (e.g. using Final Sync to synchronize USB contents to a laptop) to reduce the impact of losing the device.

Once you know how to speed up XP performance using regular maintenance tasks then there is every chance that your XP computer will continue to be a reliable and fast machine for many years to come.

This article looks at using software to get a faster PC, then steps through a series of PC maintenance activities for improving (i) startup times, (ii) application effectiveness, (iii) hardware usage and (iv) internet speed.

Automated Quick Solution (Using Software)

Without resorting to adding more RAM to your computer, all maintenance work involves tuning system settings, fixing faulty program files and checking you have the latest XP system files. The remaining sections detail how to manually do this, but there are online PC repair services like Reimage that can automate these PC maintenance and repairs

Check out our Reimage review to find out how this tool can speed up and stabilize your PC.
Try out the free Reimage scan to highlight registry, OS and application repairs that your PC needs.

1: Speed up XP Boot Times

To speed up XP boot performance for the full system restart you need to disable some of the programs and services that are run as the system boots.

Windows centralizes these settings in the startup tab of the System Configuration tool (Start > Run > enter msconfig). Just be careful to research which programs you disable and do not interfere with critical tools (e.g. anti-virus software).

Alternatively, you could resort to using the Hibernation or Standby mode instead of doing a full reboot. Both these modes take a system snapshot of running programs that can loaded more quickly when rebooting.

2: Improve Application Effectiveness

Next, you want to look at how effectively your running applications are performing and if these can be improved. The Task Manager process tab is the ideal tool to troubleshoot application performance.

Open the Task Manager, processes tab and sort the list of processes by the ‘mem usage’ column in descending order. You want to focus on those programs that are heavy users of your RAM memory.

If the program is non-critical (i.e. it is not something important like software update services) and you do not require it then consider closing it down or removing it entirely.

If you need to use the application then check that you have the most up to date version/patch installed (newer is generally better for performance). Search online for performance problems reported by customers via the product support site and user forums and look for workarounds and advanced configuration tweaks.

Improving application effectiveness also means stopping them from being corrupted and maintaining updated system files that they utilize. This means you should:

Scan for viruses/adware/malware to fix pc errors and system file corruption and

Run the Windows Update regularly to ensure your device drivers and system programs are kept current.

3: Optimize Hardware Usage

Your next focus is to ensure important hardware such as the RAM and disk drives are optimally set and being used to the best of their abilities. This is done as follows:

Defragment all disk drives (using all programs > accessories > system tools > disk defragmenter).

Clear out some disk drive space. At least 10% should be left empty for virtual memory.

Increase the virtual memory Windows use via the page file maximum size attribute. (see control panel > system > advanced > performance options).

Lastly, while the Performance Options window is open, reduce the number of visual effects that are enabled to improve graphics processing speeds.

4: Speed Up XP Internet Connection

Quite often a slow broadband connection can make it seem like your computer is running slow when in fact it may just be struggling with a connection bottleneck. There are a few things you can try to speed up XP computer connectivity, as follows:

Download the latest device drivers for your modem.

Research the optimum modem settings you should be using via the user manual and online FAQs & user forums.

Disable some/all of your browser add-ons. These may be downloading a lot of information while you are online that you never use.

Use your firewalls permissions to block programs on your PC from making remote calls to web servers. Many will be permitted access to ping servers for downloads/updates which can use up bandwidth.

These maintenance tips show you how to speed up XP computer performance, even on old machines, and ideally you should check these factors every 4 to 12 weeks to keep tabs on how well your machine is running.

It is a common misconception that formatting a hard disk will completely wipe the files from the drive’s memory but this simple isn’t the case. Formatted data recovery is possible because the process only removes index references to where your documents are stored on the drive. This article shows how a post format data recovery is technically possible along with the 3 factors affecting how many files will be found.

A data recovery after format is possible due to the way documents are stored and deleted. Each document you save is written to the disk memory as several data clusters located around the disk. A system file called the file allocation table (FAT) keeps an index of each document name (which you see in directory listings) and the memory addresses of its associated data clusters. Formatting a computer will clear out the list of indexes in the FAT but it leaves the clusters alone.

File recovery software can recover lost documents by scanning the drive for clusters and reforming them into the documents you will recognize.

Note: Deleted data recovery is even easier (than doing a data recovery after format) as the FAT index is not cleared so recovery software has the clusters along with the FAT index of document-to-clusters associations to piece together the documents.

Factor 1: How much the disk is used after formatting

While data clusters are left intact after formatting, they are marked as available to the operating system for writing any new files to disk.

They may not get overwritten straight away, but with ongoing use of the hard disk the pre-format clusters will begin to disappear. Extensive usage of the disk (e.g. reinstalling an OS) will accelerate the loss of your files.

Factor 2: Format data recovery software – Each tool finds different files

Each data recovery tool uses different code and processing logic to find the clusters on disk and establish which clusters go together to form a document/file you might recognize.

As a result, some post format data recovery software can be more successful than others at piecing together the fragments. One option is to try out the free trial scans of these tools to establish which can find all the documents you are seeking before making a purchase.

Suggested Post Format Data Recovery Software:

Remo Undelete: FAT/NTFS support, Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Server 2003; Comes with a free trial scan.

Restore My Files Data Recovery: Windows XP/Me/98/2000; Free trial scan available.

Factor 3: Formatted data recovery will be decimated by data cleansing/scrubbing

Most formatting processes work simply by clearing the FAT of document indexes. However, it is increasingly common for people to use data cleaning/scrubbing software in an effort to clear even the clusters on the hard drive.

These tools work by repeatedly writing files to the formatted drive in an effort to overwrite all the data clusters on you disk. This process is not always 100% successful but it usually results in only fragments of original documents remaining on the disk.

So, if you do find yourself needing to do a data recovery after format, then you’ll recover more lost files if the disk has not been used and try using the free scans on several tools to identify which can find the most clusters.

Check out our Reimage review to find out how
this application can fix PC errors and speed up your PC.

The chances that your computer freezes up increase over time as new applications, services and hardware are installed, removed and customized. While PC freezes can be due to hardware faults in the worst case scenario, the majority of times it is due to some software/system file change that we, the users, make.

Here, we’ll look at the ways that we introduce these problems, along with common solutions to PC freezes.

My PC Freezes Up With A Certain Product

The most common type of PC freeze is when a single program consistently causes a computer to hang when running specific commands. The problem may be that the application is using up all your system RAM/CPU or is invoking operating system methods incorrectly due to buggy code.

If you’d rather hold on to the product and resolve why the PC freezes up then some options to consider are:

Check for program updates. Go to the app maker’s website and check for the latest patches.

Double-check the program you installed is supported on your OS version and that your PC specification (CPU, disk space & RAM) meets the minimum specification requirements of the product.

Search online for customer support tickets and user forums that detail the same fault. If others have seen the problem then there could already be a fix/workaround that you could attempt.

If you extensively customized the product (e.g. adding several add-ons to browsers) then roll back your changes or reinstall the program to start afresh.

However, the brutal approach to resolving the issue is to remove the application if you don’t require it. The install shield will roll back registry problem for you and hopefully resolve the PC freeze. You could then install a competitor’s product that does the same task.

My PC Keeps Freezing Randomly

Anytime my PC freezes on a more random pattern then it can be more difficult to pinpoint the problematic application that caused the issue. One single program change/removal can impact registry keys shared by several applications and therefore lead to the more random PC freeze. In this situation, you need to look at what system files can be affected and try to fix them.

Virus Damage: The inadvertent introduction of adware, spyware or other virus types can overwrite program files and damage the registry. Run a full disk scan with an updated anti-virus program to detect and resolve any found bugs.

Registry Corruption: The Windows registry can develop faults as programs are customized, installed and removed. Manually modifying the file is not recommended so stick to using registry cleaners to repair the file (e.g. Registry Easy or XP Repair Pro).

System & Registry File Faults: The registry is one of the core system files on your computer that can develop faults. However, doing something simple like removing an application can remove/overwrite/corrupt OS program files as well as damage the registry. In this case, a registry cleaner alone will not resolve the problem. A PC repair tool such as Reimage can be used to scan for OS, application, device driver and registry faults.

Hopefully, one of the tips here will resolve why your PC keeps freezing. If not, then your issue may be due to hardware problems (e.g. a faulty hard drive sector) which you should investigate or seek professional assistance to repair.
